Technical considerations regarding the use of thermal desorption and associated sampling techniques to measure emissions from products and materials
Application Note 056
Manufacturers of construction products, furnishings, furniture, car trim components and consumer products need to monitor emissions of volatile and semi-volatile organic compounds (VOCs and SVOCs) to assess the environmental impact of their products indoors and in vehicle cabins. In many cases this data is needed for product certification or to demonstrate compliance with VOC emission limits enshrined in law – see Application Note 068.
This application note provides technical advice on sampling VOCs/SVOCs from construction materials or consumer products onto sorbent tubes using chambers, with analysis by thermal desorption–gas chromatography (TD–GC), and mass spectrometry (MS) or flame ionisation detection (FID).
