Research to routine screening: Meeting the evolving demands of clinical breath analysis with thermal desorption

Presented at Pittcon 2021

The poster entitled “Research to routine screening: Meeting the evolving demands of clinical breath analysis with thermal desorption” was presented by Markes International at Pittcon, which was held on 8–12 March 2021 as a virtual conference.

Reviewing the clinical breath analysis workflow

Volatile organic compounds in exhaled breath could be used to diagnose life-threatening diseases in a non-invasive and inexpensive way.

Many breath analysis studies target the broadest possible range of vapour-phase compounds and rely on the use of thermal desorption using sorbent tubes coupled with gas chromatography–mass spectrometry.

In this poster, we review the clinical breath sampling and analysis workflow and show how thermal desorption provides the ideal solution to meet the needs of early-stage research, large-scale clinical trials and beyond, towards widespread routine screening.
