Overview
Starter kits and routine maintenance kits cover the most commonly required spare parts.
Micro-Chamber/Thermal Extractor accessories include calibration tools to ensure the sampling process is consistent between chambers, a sample cutter to prepare consistent sections of SPF (or similar materials) for emissions sampling, spacers, O-rings, sample dishes and spare sample pans/lids etc. to maintain and/or get more out of your instrument.
Spacers
The Micro-Chamber/Thermal Extractor ships with four or six inert chambers and lids, and a selection of spacers to raise samples for surface emissions testing to the top of the chamber. Spares can be purchased in case of loss or damage, and also to allow sample preparation ahead of time.
Sample dishes and disks
A selection of sample dishes and disks are available to hold samples centrally in a Micro-Chamber/Thermal Extractor, and to prevent damage/wear or contamination of the inert chambers themselves. Aluminium dishes are disposable, and are ideal for solids with low melting points such as wax, semi-solids such as paints and gels, or even liquids. The PTFE sample disk is ideal for semi-solid samples such as pastes and gels – the sample can be spread onto the disk and subsequently wiped and washed for reuse. The PTFE insert with six wells is ideal for liquid standard introduction or liquid samples, and again the insert can be washed for reuse. In all cases, the sample pan is protected from heavy contamination and the internal surfaces can be wiped with solvent and air dried (this is better than scrubbing, which could scratch the inert coating).
Sample pans and O-rings
The lip of the sample pan holds an O-ring, which seals against the lid of the chamber. For the high-temperature Micro-Chamber/Thermal Extractor, there are two O-ring types available: one accommodating temperatures up to 200°C and another suitable for temperatures over 200°C. When working with lower temperatures, more akin to real-world conditions, the more cost-effective O-ring can be used. When working with more extreme temperatures (over 200°C), the specialist O-ring is essential. Markes also recommends the sample pan removal tool when working with extreme temperatures to allow safe removal of the pans for more rapid cooling or for replacement with alternatives for resampling.
Tube interface caps sit on top of the Micro-Chamber/Thermal Extractor and seat the sampling tubes or DNPH cartridges for VOC collection. O-Rings sit inside the interface and should be checked and replaced regularly. U-COV10 O-rings should be used for industry-standard tubes and U-COV45 O-rings should be used for 6 mm o.d. tubes (such as DAAMS and TO Mini-tubes). For DNPH cartridges, the M-TCN04 O-ring and spacer must be used to adjust the inlet to suit 4 mm o.d. cartridges.
Calibration tool
When using the high-temperature Micro-Chamber/Thermal Extractor™ (μ-CTE™) to investigate emissions from materials, it is useful to ensure that the sampling process is consistent between chambers. For this, Markes recommends the μ-CTE Chamber Calibration Tool, which allows liquid standard to be loaded into wells on the surface of four PTFE sample blocks, which are then placed in the four sample chambers.
The μ-CTE Chamber Calibration Tool enables the performance and reproducibility of the individual sampling chambers of the μ-CTE to be compared, both on one system and between systems.
Sample cutter
When using the high-temperature Micro-Chamber/Thermal Extractor™ (μ-CTE™) to investigate surface emissions from spray polyurethane foam (SPF), consistency of samples is key to producing reproducible results. The μ-CTE SPF Sample Cutter enables consistent sections of SPF to be prepared, ready for emissions sampling using the μ-CTE. The cutter can also be used for other similar material types.
