Diffusion-locking caps (DiffLok)

DiffLok™ caps sit on both ends of a sorbent tube throughout the entire analytical sequence, in all Markes’ automated thermal desorption instruments. Their patented design prevents loss of sample and ingress of contaminants onto the tube, and avoids the need for complex robotics to cap and uncap tubes. DiffLok caps are available in stainless and inert-coated stainless steel.

Overview

DiffLok caps contain a long/narrow helical flow path, which slows the rate of diffusion to a point where it becomes negligible. However, once pressure is applied in the analytical system (or via a pump), the tube performs as an uncapped tube.

DiffLok caps are available for industry-standard tubes (ID 1/4 inch) and 4½ inch DAAMS tubes (ID 6mm).

When working with inert tubes, only one inert cap is required on the sampling end of the tube; the other end can be stainless steel, as it is not in the flow path of the sample. Replacement O-rings are available for routine maintenance.

40 caps (20 stainless steel and 20 inert-coated stainless steel) ship with each automated instrument from Markes.

A booster pack of 160 stainless steel caps is available to allow racking of 100 stainless steel or glass tubes on an automated system (U-ULKIT).

DiffLok caps are also used with an MTS-32 (multi-tube sequencer) to prevent loss of sample, ingress of contaminants and diffusive effects when undertaking low-flow sampling. For less experienced users, they can also be used in combination with SafeLok inserts in place of long-term storage caps.
