The complementary role of thermal desorption alongside other sample introduction technologies for GC
Application Note 060
Thermal desorption is one of the most versatile sampling preparation/introduction technologies available for gas chromatography (GC).
It plays a wide-ranging and complementary role to other GC sampling methods such as equilibrium headspace and purge-and-trap, and is often combined with such techniques during the final transfer of compounds to the analyser.
This application note provides a brief review of each of the main GC ‘front-end’ technologies and summarises the advantages, limitations and applications of each.
